WHY NFTS?
We think that NFTs provide a new framework for the expression of identity, art and society. The technology is under constant development and we think that, over time, NFTs will be a form of identity marker you can hold forever in your wallet. If you have ever kept a concert ticket, bought merchandise from a band you love, or bought a piece of art, you might already know the feeling of owning a NFT from an artist you love.
The idea of owning digital things is a broadly accepted idea in the gaming space. Blockchain tech, in contrast to most current games, has a decentralised character where everyone independently can validate your ownership of the digital asset and no single centralised entity has all the distribution power.
WHAT IS HOPIUM RECORDS?
Hopium Records is an art project/piece operating as a Music Label. You do indeed end up owning your new NFT but all the interaction with this site and Hopium Records is part of the explorative Hopium Records art piece.
WHAT IS A NFT?
NFT is an acronym for Non-Fungible Token that represents ownership over an unique digital or physical item.
WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN BUYING AN NFT RELEASE?
When you buy an NFT you get a token representing your unique copy of a release. In the minting metadata you can see the IPFS CID (a content based identification code) that you can use to access a folder containing the track(s), cover art and other files.
WHAT BLOCKCHAIN DO YOU USE?
Currently we are using the Ergo blockchain. At the current time, we feel this is the most artist-centric blockchain as it offers smart contracts that can be embedded in the NFTs providing the artist with royalties from secondary sales of their work. HOW ARE THE MUSIC AND ARTWORK STORED?
We use a new and very exciting decentralized file storage system called InterPlanetary File System (IPFS). Read more about IPFS here: https://ipfs.io/
HOW ARE THE NFTS STORED?
The metadata of the NFTs is stored forever in the minting transaction of the token. You can see your NFTs directly in your Ergo or Yoroi wallet or use Ergo Auctions to view your NFTs and their metadata.
HOW DO I ACCESS THE FILES IN MY NFT?
You can either use the search function at ergotokens.org or go to ergoauctions.org and connect your wallet by clicking the wallet symbol, choose "Any Wallet" and paste your wallet address into the address field. Your tokens will be displayed under "Owned Artworks". You can find the CID for the release in the description. Copy/paste the CID to following URL https://gateway.pinata.cloud/ipfs/<CID> (without <>) Check out our test token here. See the content of this release here.
